UPMC Presbyterian Shadyside has earned the title of the top hospital in the Pittsburgh area, as rated by U.S. News & World Report and is number two in Pennsylvania, second only to the hospitals of the University of Pennsylvania-Penn Presbyterian. UPMC Shadyside admitted nearly 66,000 patients last year and has a bed count of 1,517.
West Penn Hospital comes in second on the list of best Pittsburgh-area hospitals, as ranked by U.S. News & World Report, and sits at the number 12 spot for the best hospitals in Pennsylvania. The general medical and surgical hospital, with 308 beds, admitted 6,800 patients last year.
U.S. News & Report ranks Allegheny General Hospital as the third best hospital in the Pittsburgh-area and 27th in Pennsylvania. The general medical and surgical hospital, with 383 beds, admitted nearly 24,000 patients last year.
Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh of UPMC treats children from all over the world and has earned a stellar reputation, ranking nationally in nine different children's specialties, including diabetes and endocrinology (#5), gastroenterology and GI surgery (#5), and pulmonology (#5). The hospital has 304 beds and admitted approximately 13,800 patients last year.
Magee Womens Hospital of UMPC has gained national recognition for its work in gynecology, ranking ninth nationally in that specialty and earning high performing scores in the specialties of cancer and orthopedics. The 327-bed hospital admitted more than 20,000 patients last year with 22,602 individuals seeking help in the emergency department.
A general medical and surgical hospital with 303 beds, St. Clair Hospital in Mount Lebanon admitted over 16,000 patients last year with more than 65,000 individuals seeking care in the emergency room.
Allegheny Valley Hospital in Natrona Heights has 228 beds and, in 2016, admitted just over 8,500 patients with nearly 35,000 individuals seeking assistance in the emergency room.
Forbes Regional Hospital in Monroeville, with 349 beds, admitted 15,194 patients in 2016 while nearly 50,000 individuals sought medical assistance in the emergency room.
Greensburg's Excela Westmoreland Hospital has 284 beds. Last year, Westmoreland Hospital admitted 18,326 patients while more than 58,000 individuals went to the facility's emergency room.
