Hey, pizza lovers! Virtual hands up if you’d agree that Pittsburgh really is a pizza town. Well, SmartAssets, a financial services company, seems to think so. In fact, last year, it named Pittsburgh the fifth most pizza-iest of towns in the United States, behind Detroit, Buffalo, New York, and Vancouver, Washington. Here are just six ways Pittsburgh has become, at least to many of us, the best pizza city in the United States.
That’s right. Pittsburgh’s home to some award-winning pizzas. In fact, one pizza parlor – Caliente and Drafthouse – serves the "Best Pizza in the World," according to The International Pizza Expo.
Many of us go to pizza joints that have been around for years, if not decades, like Mineo’s, Aiello’s, and Vincent’s Pizza Park. Of course, we can also go to popular chains, too, like Fox’s Pizza and Vocelli’s.
Really, really hungry? Then, Pittsburgh’s pizza has got you covered. In fact, if you’re craving a pizza that’s so big it will spill off of your table, order a Monster Pizza from Lena’s II in McKees Rocks. The enormous pie spans 30 inches and cuts into 64 mouthwatering slices.
5. People from all over the U.S. order Pittsburgh pizza.
Mineo’s Pizza House delivers its 12-inch pies all over the United States by FexEx. All you have to do follow the baking instructions. And, voila! You’ve got Pittsburgh pizza wherever you go.
Sure, you can get a slice of cheesy pizza anywhere. But, Pittsburgh puts its own spin on pizza. Top your pizza, for example, with pierogis at The Church Brew Works. (Pizza and pierogis: can it get any better than that?)
