Next time you’re looking for something for the kids – and you – to do, plan a visit to this 370,000-square foot museum that features everything from the original set of Mister Rogers Neighborhood to a giant ketchup bottle.
Pile the kids into the car for a day of adventure at the Heinz History Center, a part of the Smithsonian Museum, in the Strip District.
Boasting 370,000 square feet over six floors, the spacious museum offers something for the kids to do from the minute you walk through the front door. Climb aboard an historic Pittsburgh trolley, for example, where the kids can pretend to drive.
And, for those of us who grew up with Mister Rogers Neighborhood, snapping photos in front of the original set - including a statue of Mister Rogers and the trolley - is a must for the whole family.
Kids still begging for more? The Heinz History Center also has several other museums, including the Western Pennsylvania Sports Museum, the Fort Pitt Museum, and Meadowcroft Rockshelter and Historic Village.
