Climb aboard an open mine car, powered by a battery motor, that will take you 1,800 feet into the side of Mahanoy Mountain. Once you enter the mine, you’ll get out for more of your tour.
The 35-minute tour includes a colorful narrative of the history of the coal mine, where miners mined anthracite coal, from a seasoned miner. You can learn even more by reading the storyboards dotted throughout the mine.
However, the fun doesn’t stop when you emerge from the side of the mountain. You can also travel around Mahanoy Mountain aboard a 1920s steam locomotive.
Save some time for a delicious meal, too, from The Jellybucket Café. The café features a menu of such favorites as burgers, hot dogs, and chicken meals. All meals come with fries and a drink.
