One thing you quickly learn about Philly is that we’re really a foodie city. Our dining scene is among the best in the world, from tiny taco shops to the fanciest steakhouses. And we really do take our food seriously – if you don’t believe me, go ahead and commit any of the following Philly food faux-pas and see how long it takes for a local to correct you.
1. Ordering anything other than whiz or provolone on your steak.
Know what you want when you get to the counter, and order it the Philly way. "whiz wit" is much more efficient than "cheesesteak with cheez whiz and onions."
Philadelphia is full of wonderful mom and pop restaurants that will serve you homemade meals, as well as one-off gourmet restaurants run by entrepreneurial chefs. There's no reason to dine out at a chain restaurant where you'll just get microwaved food.
It's easy to find homemade water ice in Philly, so there's no reason to live off of the store bought stuff. It will never be as good as the real deal.
As long as you avoid making any of these Philly food faux-pas, you’ll have a great time dining in our city! And since we really are all about the cheesesteak, you might want to check out These 10 Restaurants That Serve The Best Cheesesteaks In Philadelphia and decide for yourself who the real King of Cheesesteaks may be.
