Philadelphia is one of the oldest cities in the nation, and it has been a very significant place in the history of the United States. Because of the long life of the city, there are many cemeteries in Philly that are the final resting place of Revolutionary War heroes, founding fathers, and early other Philadelphians. While these burial grounds are certainly historic, there’s definitely something creepy about the oldest Philadelphia cemeteries.

This cemetery in Fishotwn is particularly creepy because it's right in the middle of a neighborhood. Many heroes of the American Revolution are laid to rest here.

The Woodlands is a National Historic Landmark District that includes a mansion that once belonged to Andrew Hamilton, the famous Philadelphia lawyer. After Hamilton's death, some of the land was converted into this beautiful - and chilling - cemetery. More than 30,000 people are buried here!

Betsy Ross was originally laid to rest here, but in recent years the cemetery has fallen into disrepair. The Friends of Mount Moriah have been working to restore this historic graveyard, but there's a feeling of gloom as you look out across the graves. The group hosts events all year round. The Old Pine Street Church, built in 1764, is one of the oldest churches in Philadelphia. During the American Revolution, British soldiers took over the church and shot at the gravestones for target practice - you can still see the bullet marks on some graves. Buried at the site are over 200 Revolutionary War heroes and one single Tory - which the Church now laughs off as a mistake.
