The lure of the big city – with its fast pace of life, countless attractions, and swelling populations – beckons those who want to be where the action is. A big city, especially in Pennsylvania, usually has everything we could ever need and want right at our fingertips. But it’s the slower pace of life, the old-fashioned friendliness, and the smaller populations of small towns that sometimes are just what we need, whether we’re looking for an idyllic getaway or to relocate. The charming community of Lewisburg, Pennsylvania offers all of that and more.
Nestled in the Susquehanna River Valley of Central Pennsylvania, Lewisburg exudes old-fashioned charm and a convenient location, just 30 miles from Williamsburg and 60 miles from Harrisburg.
With a population of just over 5,200, the small Pennsylvania town is home to Bucknell University and an enchanting downtown that’s earned a spot on the National Register of Historic Places.
A visit to Lewisburg inevitably means some time spent in the quaint downtown, where you’ll find an eclectic collection of shops, restaurants, and the Campus Theatre. Showing old classics and new blockbusters, the historic theater first opened in 1941.
If you’ve come for the shopping, you’re sure to score treasures downtown and at Street of Shops, an adorable indoor shopping village. Tucked in a former woolen mill, the Street of Shops is a replica of a small town, complete with individual storefronts.
If you’re visiting with the kiddos, make your way to the 9,000-square-foot Lewisburg Children’s Museum. Promising an interactive experience, the museum allows children to take part in a variety of science, art, language, and music activities.
Spend some time, too, exploring the charming community’s parks. Hufnagle Park, Soldiers Park, and The Piers all offer the opportunity to relax and have a picnic. Each offers a variety of amenities.
