Field trips were always a great break from the regular school day routine. Partner up with a bus buddy, and see what adventures await you in the outside world. From museums, to farms, caves, and more, Pennsylvania certainly has many classic field trips for its schoolchildren. Which of these would you want to revisit first?
1. The Ben Franklin Science Museum in Philadelphia
The Ben Franklin Museum captured our imaginations as children, what with its fun interactive displays including the walk-through heart and skybike. As kids you might have seen some of its science exhibits and thought, "that's just like we learned in school!"-- though as an adult, you might be reminded of fascinating science lessons that you've totally forgotten about.
2. Longwood Gardens in Kennett Square
As a child, Longwood Gardens was by far the most boring field trip I ever endured. As an adult though, flowers and perfectly manicured lawns are more alluring... This place definitely demands a revisit as an adult.
3. Laurel Caverns in Wharton
Who doesn't love going underground once in a while? Laurel Caverns was a popular cave for field trips near Pittsburgh-- though if you lived on the eastern side of the state you might have visited Crystal Cave instead.
4. Carnegie Science Center in Pittsburgh
The Carnegie Science Center is full of awesome exhibits that teach kids and adults alike all kinds of fun facts. Be sure to try out SpacePlace, where you can experience zero-gravity. Groovy!
5. Hershey Park!
WHOOO! Roller coasters! Hershey Park was an awesome trip not only because of the amusement park, but also because of the chocolate factory tour. Whee!
6. Lancaster
As children, we all took the trip to Lancaster County to learn about our state's agricultural roots. Lancaster is an awesome trip to take as an adult, also, with numerous stops for shopping, dining, and relaxation.
7. Fallingwater in Mill Run
Frank Lloyd Wright's architectural masterpiece, located not too far from Pittsburgh, is a stop for almost any school-aged kid growing up in western Pennsylvania. Take another trip back to admire this incredible, historic building, and also to relax in its peaceful woodsy atmosphere.
8. Fort Necessity in Fayette County
Fort Necessity is a valuable historical location, where George Washington led colonial forces into battle in 1754. The location makes both for an educational trip, and a beautiful day outdoors.
