A really good challenge can often leave us exhausted, inspired, and thankful that we pushed ourselves to the limit. We can find quite a few challenging hikes in Pennsylvania, ones that test our skills and our determination. If you’re up for a challenge and an overnight adventure, follow Old Logger’s Path in Pennsylvania. It’s a difficult trail drenched in natural beauty.
Old Logger's Path, an official state forest hiking trail, meanders 27 miles through the diverse terrain of Loyalsock State Forest.
It earned its name as it follows former logging trails. You'll also travel along the Pleasant Stream and Rock Run valleys and through the long-gone town of Masten.
Old Logger's Path has earned a difficult rating, so you'll probably want to plan your journey in advance. Most hikers opt to go backpacking overnight to finish the trail, which usually takes at least a day and a half.
While you'll definitely want to marvel at the views of Sullivan Mountain from a nearby visit, keep an eye out for rattlesnakes. Countless hikers have reported seeing them in the area.
A word of warning: Be prepared for really muddy conditions, and perhaps even some flooding, if you choose to hike after heavy rainfall. Rattlesnakes and bears reside in the forest.
Head over to the official website of Loyalsock State Forest for more information. You can also find a trail map and more photos of Old Loggers Path on All Trails.
