Oh woe is we who live in Pennsylvania because, let’s face it, sometimes being a Pennsylvanian isn’t all that it’s cracked up to be. Sure, we hear out-of-staters marvel at just how amazing Pennsylvania is and how wildly friendly Pennsylvanians are, but sadly here are 15 indisputable, tongue-in-cheek reasons it’s not always easy being from Pennsylvania.
Have you ever tried to get anything done when you’re surrounded by so much natural beauty? Whether you’re trying to mow the lawn or to catch up on paperwork, you likely find yourself just marveling at the stunningly beautiful landscape surrounding you.
Just about everywhere we turn in PA we can find a hidden natural oasis, making it really difficult to decide what to do from day to day. Spend the day hiking along waterfalls or lie on the sandy beach in Lake Erie?

We have so much to do in PA that if we get bored, it’s because we just don’t want to do anything.

How many times have you and family or friends just sat around trying to decide where to eat and struggling to make a decision because Pennsylvania just has too many restaurants?
How are you supposed to narrow down the choices – Hershey’s or Utz’s pretzels – when you live in the Snack Capital of the United States?
Decisions. Decisions. Pennsylvanians are always overwhelmed by the sheer number of decisions they must make. Which beers, for example, stand out as PA’s best? Yuengling? Iron City Beer?
If you thought choosing where to have dinner was difficult, imagine living in PA where the dessert list is even more scrumptious – whoopie pies, shoofly pie, Turkey Hill ice cream, or Tastykakes?

Out-of-staters must have difficulty imagining just how hard it is to decide which team to root for – the Steelers or the Eagles? The Pens or the Flyers? Or the Pirates or the Phillies when we come from a state where winning is just as natural as breathing.

Where else can we travel that offers so many things to do and places to go – state and county parks, big cities, small and tiny towns, world class museums, eclectic restaurants, and amazing entertainment venues?
How can we travel out-of-state and expect to get our daily or weekly forecast from mere mortals when we Pennsylvanians turn to the famous Punxsutawney Phil for our weather predictions?
Going to California, Hawaii, Arizona – or anywhere the sun shines warmly every day – is just too much for us. After all, we’re used to experiencing all four seasons, sometimes all in one day. What other state can offer us that?
But, instead of being snowed in the house we somehow have to decide if we should go sledding, skiing, tobogganing, ice skating, snow showing, or airboarding.
We’ll dig ourselves out during a bad snow storm and hit the roads when it’s icy and we do so without fear. We’d be like the proverbial fish out of water should we visit another state where everything shuts down for an inch or two of snow.

Strangers often quickly strike up conversations, which means we can often find ourselves sidetracked from the task at hand.
Pennsylvanians simply can’t leave PA and stay away for good. After all, no state quite compares to PA.
