Lacawac Sanctuary In Pennsylvania Is A Stunning Hidden Gem

A sprawling nature preserve that stretches 545 acres, Lacawac Sanctuary in Lake Ariel has been a popular destination for local nature lovers since it first opened in 1966.

It's home to Lake Lacawac, known as "the southernmost glacial lake in the hemisphere." You can sit on one of the benches nearby and marvel at the unspoiled beauty of the 52-acre lake.

The best way to explore the sanctuary is to follow one or more of the dozen hiking trails, which range in difficulty from easy to hard.

To make it easy to find your way around the nature preserve, stop by the kiosk at the entrance or at the visitors center (when it's open) to pick up a map.

The nature preserve is brimming with natural beauty - nature displays, a garden with native plants, and a natural bog.

You definitely don't want to forget your camera for your visit. If you plan on hiking one of the trails, bring your kids or pup along.

Keep an eye out for local wildlife, too, including salamanders and deer.

Lacawac Sanctuary also hosts a selection of public events, including summer camps for kids and workshops for adults.

Visitors are welcome to explore the trails daily, all year round, from sunrise to sunset.
