Bushy Run Battlefield in Jeanette draws both history buffs and ghost hunters who seek to see firsthand the site of an epic battle between the British army and Native Americans during the Pontiac War.
The war, which raged between 1763 and 1766, began as the result of the Native Americans' desire to be free of British Rule and to claim their own independence. Efforts were led by Chief Pontiac.
A two-day battle, the Battle of Bushy Run, took place in August 1763. It resulted in a British victory, ensuring that Fort Pitt in nearby Pittsburgh would remain under British control. The British lost an estimated 60 soldiers during the battle.
Today, the historic battlefield in Pennsylvania draws both history buffs and ghost hunters to explore some of its 213 acres – the final resting place of those who died during those two days.
Visitors can join a tour of the battlefield, which gives unique insight into the Battle of Bushy Run. You might even experience something otherworldly during your visit.
The battlefield is said to be haunted by Native soldiers who were killed during the battle. Their restless spirits still roam the battlefield, even following visitors around.
