Homemade goodies just taste so much better than those store-bought treats that come pre-packaged in fancy boxes. Sure, they’re good for a quick sugar rush, but when we want the tastiest treats around, we can’t go wrong with homemade. When you don’t have the time or the desire to bake your favorite desserts, make a beeline for this bakery in Pennsylvania.
At one time, Pennsylvania was home to countless general stores, where we could go to pick up whatever we needed – from tools to grocery items (and everything in between).
Those old-time general stores are harder to find these days, but there’s one tucked in Port Trevorton that’s a throwback to a simpler time. It’s also home to a popular bakery, perhaps one of the best in Pennsylvania.
As you stroll through Hilsher’s General Store, you’ll likely find plenty to buy. Home décor, grocery, sporting goods, books, and toys are just a few of the departments that are brimming with fun finds.
However, let your sweet tooth guide you straight to the bakery. All of the baked goods at this general store bakery are made from scratch onsite, so you know you’re getting the freshest goodies available.
Hilsher’s Bakery is perhaps best known for its whoopie pies, a Pennsylvania classic. You’ll find a few different flavors – from the traditional chocolate and banana to pumpkin and peanut butter-filled.
Oh, but that’s just a peek at the deliciousness that awaits. Browse the selection of fresh-baked pies, cookies, and cakes. (You can even buy cake by the slice!)
Grab a bite to eat, too, from the hot buffet then sit down and enjoy a meal in the dining area. The general store serves such classics as meatballs, meatloaf, lasagna, and chicken pot pie.
