However, before you head over to this Pennsylvania forest, know what to expect. Both of its main hiking trails are challenging and span more than 5.5 miles. The scenery more than makes up for the hard work that's required - if you're up for the challenge.
If you're up for an even bigger challenge, follow the 5.7-mile Scouten Brook and Emerald Forest Loop Trail. It has a hard rating and usually takes more than three hours to complete.
The trail can be easy to lose and features a lot of rough, rocky terrain. Hikers recommend going with others because there is no cell service. Make sure you bring a sufficient supply of water, too.
Both trails can get incredibly muddy after it rains. If you're hiking in the warmer months, lather on the bug spray, and bring it along, too. It's extremely buggy in the forest.
