Bloomsburg in Columbia County holds the distinction of being the only incorporated - or real, as some would assert - town in Pennsylvania. But, that's just one fraction of what draws countless visitors to the town each year.
Bloomsburg University of Pennsylvania has called the state's only town home since it opened in 1839. The public university ranked 31st on the 2017 List of Top Public Schools in the United States as recognized by U.S. News & World Report.
Hundreds of thousands of visitors flock to Bloomsburg every fall for the annual Bloomsburg Fair, which recently concluded its 161st season. The huge fair includes an old-fashioned carnival with rides and games, carriage rides, helicopter rides, live entertainment, and...
...such exhibits as horse pulling, demolition derbies, figure eight racing, and arts and crafts. And, that's just really the beginning of the fun that overtakes the town when the Bloomsburg Fair is in full swing.
Downtown Bloomsburg hosts numerous events throughout the year. Upcoming 2016 events include Santa's Cottage on November 25 to kick off the holiday with a parade of lights and a special appearance by Santa. The North Pole Express runs on November 26 and 27.
A busy day deserves a delicious meal. The New Bloomsburg Diner welcomes diners Monday from 6 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Tuesday through Sunday from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Cap off your visit to Bloomsburg with homemade ice cream, made fresh on site at Brennan's Big Chill. Enjoy an ice cream cone, a sundae, a milkshake, an Italian ice, or homemade yogurt. Brennan's Big Chill serves guests daily from noon to 8 p.m. The season, however, ends November 13.
Bloomsburg is a delightful Pennsylvania town you certainly won’t want to drive by. Pennsylvania, in fact, is filled with charming small towns that you’ll want to add to your bucket list.
