Life can get downright stressful, which makes finding a way to relax incredibly important. We have so many amazing destinations in Pennsylvania that will help us wind down and recharge. Pennsylvania’s Locust Lake, for example, offers a tranquil setting for a getaway. If one day simply isn’t enough, you can check into one of the two lakeside campgrounds for the night.
Nestled in Locust Lake State Park in Barnesville, the 52-acre Locust Lake promises an idyllic backdrop for a relaxing day. The mountain lake is just the beginning of the fun – and the beauty – that awaits, though.
Open seasonally from May through September, the beach welcomes swimmers from 8 a.m. until sunset. Pay attention to the buoys that rope off the swimming area, which measures 5.5 feet at its deepest.
Sometimes nothing cures life’s stresses like a day on the water. Locust Lake is popular with boating, too, where you can rent a canoe, a kayak, a rowboat, or a paddleboat from the boat rental stand. (It’s only open seasonally. You can bring your own, too.)
Tallying more than 1,700 acres, Locust Lake State Park is well worth exploring too, whether on one of its nearly seven miles of hiking trails or on the 1.3-mile paved biking path. Or, if you’ve got the time, go for both.
Winter’s snow turns the park into a beautiful wonderland while a frozen Locust Lake becomes an enchanting ice skating rink. This is definitely one of those Pennsylvania destinations that deserves a visit in each season.
