I'm an east coast girl living in a west coast world. I grew up in New England before moving to SoCal for several years. I then lived in NYC or a year before moving to AZ in 2009. I worked in the entertainment industry for many years of my adult life and have a deep love for photography, writing, and traveling around the U.S. as well as to far-flung locations around the world. Travel is my life and writing about it is a dream!
Pennsylvania is beyond compare in terms of the beauty found around the state. After all, it has 121 state parks and nearly 20 national parks filled with protected forests, lakes, rivers, waterfalls, mountains, and endless trails to explore them all. One park worthy of exploration is the Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area where you can hike to an overlook in Pennsylvania and take in the panorama of breathtaking scenery below.
The Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area can be found along 40 miles of the Delaware River at the Pennsylvania/New Jersey border. With 70,000 acres of forests, mountains, and rivers as well as 120 miles of trails, this state border preserve offers some of the most beautiful scenery in the state.
The 5.7-mile out-and-back Cliff Trail has an overall elevation gain of 679 feet and will lead you through the lush forest and, eventually, to a scenic overlook.
Hikers have mentioned that the trail markings aren't entirely clear along Cliff Trail. Be sure to download the trail map from AllTrails before you head out on this hike.
It's also imperative to wear a good, sturdy pair of hiking shoes or boots for this hike as the trail is rocky in certain areas and becomes slippery in rainy weather.
Have you done a hike to an overlook in Pennsylvania? If so, where did you go? Tell us in the comments! For a map of Cliff Trail, visit AllTrails. To learn more about the Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area, head to the NPS website.
