A vacation isn’t complete without sampling at least a little bit of local cuisine. Unique local restaurants are always part of the journey in my book. When my family and I took a trip to Hershey, Pennsylvania last month, there was only one type of food on our minds. Chocolate was definitely a focus of our trip! Luckily we found a place where we could indulge in as much chocolate as we could ever want. Our sweet dinner at The Chocolatier Restaurant was definitely a highlight of our vacation.
The Chocolatier was one of the first stops on our trip. We intended to eat a lot, so we decided to visit the restaurant on a day that we weren’t visiting the amusement park.

This turned out to be a good idea because we all left so full that we could barely move.
The Chocolatier is located right across the entrance to the amusement complex. We arrived early for our 7:15 reservation (made weeks in advance) and had time to peruse the restaurant’s gift shop which was filled with t-shirts, trinkets, and copious amounts of Hershey’s chocolate products.

I ended up buying a cute little magnet for my refrigerator.

The hostess called our name and led us to the dining area. We were seated at a traditional table, but you could also sit at a roller coaster or tilt-a-whirl-themed booth.
When I looked over the menu, I couldn’t believe all of the chocolate choices! From drinks to apps to main dishes, there was course after course of chocolate goodness. Many of the dishes had names inspired by the amusements at the park.
I ordered a drink called a Peanut Butter Big Cup mocktail (made from Reese's Peanut Butter Cups and Reese’s Pieces), my husband tried a local beer, and my son got this over-the-top Cotton Candy Fizz concoction. You could also order alcoholic drinks made with or without chocolate.
Then it was on to the shareables (appetizers)! There were chicken wings with Hershey's Chocolate Barbecue Sauce, Soft Pretzel Dippers, and a Ferris Wheel Sampler of apps served in a revolving dish that looked like a Ferris wheel.
We all ordered different main courses but sampled a little bit of each dish. The house salad, chicken tenders, and short ribs were all made with elements of chocolate. And we were really impressed with the Loaded Mac & Cheese with Pulled Short Rib and Hershey's Chocolate Barbecue Sauce that was served in a Hershey’s Kiss-shaped skillet.

Everything we tried was absolutely delicious.
By this point, we were pretty full, but we couldn’t leave the restaurant without sampling some desserts. We had seen other people order some gigantic milkshakes and decided that we really needed to try one. We went with the Cookies N Cream Milkshake which came with a big slice of moose cake and we also ordered a piece of the Reese's Cupfusion Cheesecake.
It turns out that our eyes were bigger than our stomachs and despite a good group effort, we just couldn’t finish the desserts. However, we were able to box up what we didn’t eat to bring to the hotel. With full stomachs, we waddled to the shuttle bus that took us back to the lodge where we all collapsed into food comas.

We stayed here during part of our trip and thoroughly enjoyed the convenient and spacious accommodations.
