As the jam-packed festival season kicks into full gear, we’re likely to see our calendars become fuller and fuller as the summer goes on. Mark the annual Celtic Fling & Highland Games, an epic two-day Celtic festival in Manheim, Pennsylvania, to your to-do list. The family-friendly event returns this June with two days of good food, entertainment, and activities.
The Celtic Fling & Highland Games return to the Mount Hope Estate in Manheim on June 24-25, 2023. Hours on both days are from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.
Mount Hope Estate is the site of the annual Pennsylvania Renaissance Faire, a 13-weekend festival that typically runs from the beginning of August until the end of October.
However, the fun starts with the Friday Kick Off Event on June 23 at 5 p.m. with live musical entertainment and plenty of good food. Trials of Cato headline the kick-off concert that also includes performances by Rover’s Way and Rogue Diplomats.
Live entertainment is scheduled throughout the weekend. Among those slated to perform include Brother Angus, Burly Celts, Screaming Orphans, and Seasons.
While the musical performances are the highlight of the weekend, the two days also feature a full menu of family-friendly activities. Both kids and adults can join the appropriate Kilt Competition.
A variety of living history events is also planned. Watch blacksmith and glassblowing demonstrations, and learn more about archery during “Archery Through The Ages.”
The kiddos can also participate in the Wee Highland Games. The sheep toss and tug-o-war are just two fun events during the games.
Be sure to bring a hearty appetite with you, so you can try traditional dishes, such as steak & stout stew, Scotch eggs, and boxty potato balls. Kettle corn, soft pretzels, and classic French fries are also on the menu.
