Life in Pennsylvania certainly can be fast-paced and exciting. However, sometimes we want to slow things down a bit and to embrace the charm of small-town life. Doing that is simple when we visit one of Pennsylvania’s best small towns, like Bedford. Surrounded by the lush, rolling landscape and classic covered bridges, Bedford boasts a quaint downtown and a full menu of family-friendly activities.
A little over 100 miles from both Harrisburg and Pittsburgh, Bedford sprawls out just over a square mile and is a popular destination for Pennsylvanians and travelers from all over.
The small town boasts a population of just over 2,700 residents and lays claim to a rich history, some of which you can experience at Jean Bonnet Tavern.
The tavern dishes up delicious meals with a hearty helping of the paranormal, if you’re lucky. It’s also the perfect place to stay overnight if you need a comfortable, charming spot to sleep.
If you’re spending a few days in Bedford, plan to visit the area’s historic covered bridges. Bedford is home to 14 covered bridges and features a self-guided covered bridge tour.
Carve out some time, too, to explore the enchanting downtown, where you’ll find an assortment of shops and restaurants. Downtown even hosts a seasonal farmers market on Wednesdays.
Staying overnight? If you feel like embarking on an old-fashioned western getaway, book a stay at Creekside Resort. You’ll also find charming B&Bs, a luxury hotel, and a cozy motel in the area.
Have you been to Bedford? Do you agree that it’s one of Pennsylvania’s best small towns? Let us know in the comments! Here are several other small towns are also some of Pennsylvania’s best.
