I write like it's my job - because it is! I have a Master's in English and love words: crossword puzzles, Scrabble games, Wordle, and, of course, good, old-fashioned books.
I'm a writer and editor at OnlyInYourState, and a contributing writer at Cincinnati Magazine. I love the Great Outdoors and am endlessly awestruck by this beautiful country of ours. Coffee keeps me going, yoga keeps me sane, my kids keep me grounded, and my writing keeps me inspired.
Here in Oregon, camping is a year-round activity, and we’re always up for pitching a tent and spending a night in the Great Outdoors. But not all Beaver State campsites are open year-round; and while this can sometimes cramp our camping style, it also makes the perennial campgrounds all the more special. Which brings us to today’s adventure: the campsite at Wallowa Lake State Park in Oregon that’s nestled right by a beautiful Alpine lake, and is open to guests year-round!
This might look like the type of pristine nature scene you'd find in the European Alps... but it's not.
This is Wallowa Lake and the Wallowa Mountains, located right here in Joseph, Oregon. Surrounded by the lush forests, glacial lakes, and the wide expanse of Eastern Oregon, the Wallowas are one of the state’s most resplendent treasures.
And you can discover all of this marvelous wonder at Wallowa Lake State Park in Oregon, a beautiful place with a near-endless resume of recreation opportunities: boating, fishing, swimming, hiking, and year-round camping!
The camping at Wallowa Lake is second to none. With 88 tent sites and several group tent sites, plus amenities like hot showers, flush toilets, and firewood, you'll enjoy a comfortable, waterfront camping experience at Wallowa Lake.
Open for camping year-round, the views of this lovely lake are especially sublime in the winter. However, please note that water is shut off to individual sites from October-May; and during the winter, first-come, first-served sites are available as plowing and maintenance allows.
This is a trip worth planning, however. The unspoiled wilderness area has small, sparkling lakes scattered at the base of 10,000-foot peaks and is a paradise for hikers, horseback riders, and naturalists.
There's even a tram that will put you right up in the middle of the mountains! This exciting ride allows explorers to sit back enjoy the pristine panoramas of the Alps of Oregon.
The Wallowas are a place that you'll want to savor and soak up; happily, there are lots of places to go stay in Wallowa Lake, including what is perhaps the most picturesque year-round campsite in Oregon!
This year-round campsite in Oregon really is a unicorn of beautiful campgrounds. Visit the Wallowa Lake State Park website to learn more and plan your excursion.
