When you’re planning a quick getaway to the coast, it’s a good idea to take everyone’s interests into account. Some people might enjoy seeing natural wonders; others want to visit galleries and shops. Everyone loves tasty food, but ideally you’ll have a lot of different options. The tiny town of Yachats is a great choice – it’s got something for everyone!
Yachats is a charming town on the coast. Located in Lincoln County, it's home to fewer than 1,000 people, but just about everyone who visits falls in love with this little gem.
Nature lovers have plenty to see and do here. The Cape Perpetua Scenic Area is an absolute must-visit. Check out Thor's Well, a huge, 20-foot-deep hole that sucks the ocean down into a terrifying display of power. Visit at sunset for amazing photos like this.
Just north of Cape Perpetua, you'll find another awe-inspiring display of the ocean's power. Devil's Churn is a narrow, rocky inlet where waves crash together. You can see it from the viewpoint at the parking lot, but to really get a feel for this dramatic feature, take the trail right down to it and get a close (but not too close) look.
The area around Yachats has several beautiful trails, but you should definitely take the Giant Spruce Trail at Cape Perpetua Scenic Area. It's an easy, one-mile stroll to a huge spruce tree - one of the largest in the state!
Stroll along the rocky coastline at Yachats State Park. This day-use park has plenty of pretty scenery, and at low tide you'll find lots of vibrant sea creatures in the tide pools.
History buffs will want to check out the Heceta Head Lighthouse. Built in 1894, its beacon sits 205 feet above the water. It's just 14 miles south of downtown.
The North Fork Yachats Bridge is a Queenpost truss covered bridge, and it was built in 1938. You can't drive across anymore, so park and walk through it.
Other great spots to shop include The Drift Inn Art Gallery, Laughing Crab Gallery, Wave Gallery, Touchstone Gallery, Dark Water Gift Shop, Books & More, and Girl In Water Photography.
After a long day of exploring, your stomach will be rumbling. Seafood lovers will surely be in heaven at Luna Sea Fish House.
