Spring is finally on its way to Oregon, and we can hardly wait! One of our favorite festivals that we put on our calendar every year is the Wooden Shoe Tulip Festival. This year marks the 39th annual Wooden Shoe Tulip Festival.

The tulips were slow to pop out this year but you'll want to mark your calendar for March 24 through April 30, 2023, to come to see these bright beautiful blossoms.

During the festival, thousands of brightly-colored blooms in all colors of the rainbow dot the landscape in a stunning display.

In addition to the tulips, there's plenty going on at the festival. Take a hot air balloon ride to see the tulips from high above. Several balloonists will be there on weekends, some offering tethered rides and others booking full flights.

Take the kiddos over to the children's play area, where they'll enjoy tire swings, a kid's slide, a hay tent, and more.

The festival is open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.; Saturday and Sunday from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m.

The festival's website states that the tulips will be a little late this year. One way to watch them grow and bloom throughout the festival is by buying a season pass. Not only will have you admission throughout the entire month, but you'll also be allowed to enter an hour before sunrise and leave an hour after sunset so you can capture some truly gorgeous photos.

Springtime in Oregon is a time to take a breath of fresh air. It is a time to celebrate because the cold winds of winter are taking a break for a little bit. Here are a few of the best spring festivals to look forward to each year:

  • Rhododendron Festival, Florence, OR: Oregon tulips might get most of the attention, but the big and bold rhododendron deserves some time in the spotlight too. The Rhododendron Festival is the second oldest flower festival in the state. The Portland Rose Festival beat it out by only one year. Nonetheless, this time of year is pretty magical no matter which flower festival you enjoy the most.
  • Portland Rose Festival, Portland, OR: We already let the cat out of the bag so to speak by telling you about the oldest flower festival in Oregon. Portland's International Rose Test Garden is the oldest public garden of its kind in the United States. So, it is no wonder this area of Oregon is pretty gaga over roses. The Portland Rose Festival has been going strong since 1907. Come see fireworks, parades, and of course, beautiful blooming roses of every color at the end of May through mid-June.
  • Festival of Illusions, Lincoln City, OR: Let's not let spring flowers steal all of the magic of the season - the Festival of Illusions is a magical celebration of, well, magic. Enjoy illusionists and magicians from all over for a two-week stint in March. Grab your magic bag of tricks and head to the Lincoln City Cultural Center to be amazed by sleight-of-hand masters.
  • Bend Brewfest, Bend, OR: Oregon is the land of craft beer, so it is probably no surprise that we'd have one of the best brewfests around. Come to Bend in mid-May for this hoppy festival in the city's historic Old Mill District. The beautiful waterfront comes alive with entertainment, great food, and, of course, the perfect craft beer to go along with it. At night, relax as the stars pop into life with live music from some pretty amazing bands.
