It’s a special privilege to work closely with horses, and horse lovers who aren’t lucky enough to have some of their own often seek out ranches and other places where they can get up close and personal with these majestic animals. There’s a ranch here in Oregon that teaches people from all walks of life how to interact with horses in a way that most trail-riding ranches don’t. Check out Wild Horse Mountain Ranch:
Located in Sherwood, Oregon, Wild Horse Mountain Ranch is typically home anywhere from 10 to 16 mustangs at a time. This ranch is truly a special place, where wild mustangs are rescued, trained, and adopted, and people come to learn from these amazing creatures.
The mustangs do some incredible work here. Weekly sessions are held with folks who have special needs from autism to anxiety. Students learn how to communicate with the horses, and how to take cues from them. The therapy provides many benefits for everyone involved.
The ranch also offers a special opportunity for guests 12 and older to bond with the horses. Take the Mustang 101 class for a hands-on experience unlike any other.
The course is 1.5 hours long, and your instructor will teach you horsemanship techniques to communicate with the animals. Some people call this "horse whispering," and you'll be fascinated by the techniques used here to connect with the mustang you're paired with. The experience costs just $40, and every penny goes toward caring for the horses here.
It costs a tremendous amount of money every year to care for these horses and provide horsemanship experiences to people with special needs. If you're able, please consider donating to the cause.
