Viking Soul Food of Portland is a food truck that has been serving up top notch Scandinavian food since 2010. Scandinavian food is not a genre of food that Americans often encounter, so the menu at this very well-rated establishment may be a bit out of the ordinary at first for many of the patrons. However, even if the menu seems like the wackiest menu in Oregon at first glance, you’ll surely find a number of things that you love here, and soon you’ll want to come back for more. Read on to learn all about it.
You'll find Viking Soul Food on Southeast Belmont, not far from Mount Tabor Park. Step right up and try some creative dishes that you've likely never tried before.
Some of the items on the menu at Viking Soul Food aren't that weird at all. These might be a good place to start if you're apprehensive. The Norwegian meatballs served here are made of beef and pork. They come with Ghjtost, which may sound wacky but it's just a caramelized cheese gravy. You'll alsoo get surkal (pickled purple cabbage) and green cabbage.
You can get the meatballs or any of the savory fare offered at Viking Soul Food in a lefse wrap. This is the smoked salmon all wrapped up in one. It is served with pickled shallots, dill sour cream, lemon and mixed greens.
How abut some Viking Rinds? These are only available sometimes, but when they are, we promise you'll love the crunch. They are simple crispy salmon skin chips served with a smoky chive aioli.
Other mains offered here include Pølse, a wine-poached Swedish pork and potato sausage with Jarlsberg cheese, and for vegetarians, mushroom hazelnut patties with hazelnuts, Danish blue cheese, and more. All mains can be served in a lefse wrap or without it for a gluten-free experience.
Sides include root vegetable champ (mashed potatoes with herbs and cream), beet salad, troll snacks (a garlic and Jarlsberg spread on rye), kraken snacks (herring and horseradish spread on rye), pickled herring, and others.
If you enjoy your meal at Viking Soul Food, be sure to come back for more and bring your friends. Also, keep in mind that catering is also offered; this food would be great for a unique or eclectic event!
You’re going to love this very special food truck. The menu may seem wacky at first, but once you try a little bit of everything, you’ll find that it isn’t so strange after all, and that all of it is very, very good. Enjoy, eat up, and tell your friends – Viking Soul Food can’t wait to serve you!
