I write like it's my job - because it is! I have a Master's in English and love words: crossword puzzles, Scrabble games, Wordle, and, of course, good, old-fashioned books.
I'm a writer and editor at OnlyInYourState, and a contributing writer at Cincinnati Magazine. I love the Great Outdoors and am endlessly awestruck by this beautiful country of ours. Coffee keeps me going, yoga keeps me sane, my kids keep me grounded, and my writing keeps me inspired.
When you need to escape from it all here in Oregon, you don’t have to go far. Breathtaking natural beauty abounds in the Beaver State; in addition to well-known parks and preserves, there are little pockets of paradise all over Oregon. And the Tualatin River National Wildlife Refuge is one of them. This sublime little sanctuary is located mere minutes from the hum and buzz of busy Portland, so you can escape into nature on a moment’s notice.
Located 20 minutes outside of Portland, Tualatin River National Wildlife Refuge (NWR) is one of only a handful of urban national wildlife refuges in the country.
There is a one-mile long nature trail here that meanders through a variety of habitats, wildlife viewpoints, and interpretive stops, culminating in an expansive view at the wetland observation deck.
The Tualatin River NWR is one of Oregon's loveliest and most accessible hidden gems. The next time you need some time in nature, pay a visit to this pristine and picturesque preserve.
The preserve is open 10 a.m.-4 p.m., Tuesday-Sunday, and closed on Mondays. The best part? Admission to this glorious place is free!
Did you know about this enchanting oasis in Oregon? Have you visited the Tualatin River National Wildlife Refuge before? If so, we’d love to hear about your experience!
