Did you know that dozens of trains and the world’s longest miniature railroad are hiding in an Oregon Forest? Take a trip to Chiloquin to the Train Mountain Railroad Museum to see them!
There's a train museum tucked away in the forest, and many Oregonians don't even know it's there! The Train Mountain Railroad Museum is located in Chiloquin - a small town just north of Klamath Falls, in the Winema National Forest.
Check in at the office and get a map for the self-guided walking tour that takes you past dozens of different train cars. The map gives you information about each, and the tour is available every day from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
You'll see unique maintenance cars, like this Weyerhauser Snow Spreader, which used various plows and wings to remove snow from train tracks during winter months.
Docents at the museum offer several presentations so you can learn how these trains operated. See a steam engine presentation, learn how switches and signals are used, and find out why cabooses were a vital part of trains in the past.
Learn more about this unique outdoor museum on its website.
Does this sound like a summer adventure you’d enjoy? If you have ridden the world’s longest miniature railroad, we’d love to hear about your trip in the comments!
