Chicken and dumplings are the ultimate comfort food, but you normally think of that dish as something you’d find in the Deep South. Luckily, Oregon has a historic roadhouse that’s been serving up delicious chicken and dumplings in its current location since the 1940s.
Tad's Chicken 'N Dumplins got its start as a humble fish house up the Sandy River from its current location. The restaurant moved downriver in the 1940s and added its famous chicken and dumplings to the menu. The rest is history.
This little roadhouse still retains much of its 1940s charm. In fact, you'll find the original jukebox right in front. Warm, pine-paneled walls, floors, and ceiling make this place feel cozy all year long.
Basically, the chicken and dumplings are the stars of the show here. Their fame is well-deserved - these huge dumplings are the tastiest you'll find west of the Mississippi.
The chicken is stewed in a rich gravy for hours, so it's super tender, and the dumplings are fluffy and savory. Of course, it's all drenched with a perfectly-seasoned chicken gravy.
You can also get some delicious seafood here. Try the beer-battered and deep-fried shrimp, scallops, or prawns. Don't worry - you can get a side of those tasty chicken and dumplings with any dinner on the menu.
You'll find Tad's Chicken 'N Dumplins at 1325 Historic Columbia River Hwy., Troutdale, OR 97060. It's open Monday through Friday 5 p.m. to 10 p.m.; Saturday and Sunday 4 p.m. to 9 p.m.
