I write like it's my job - because it is! I have a Master's in English and love words: crossword puzzles, Scrabble games, Wordle, and, of course, good, old-fashioned books.
I'm a writer and editor at OnlyInYourState, and a contributing writer at Cincinnati Magazine. I love the Great Outdoors and am endlessly awestruck by this beautiful country of ours. Coffee keeps me going, yoga keeps me sane, my kids keep me grounded, and my writing keeps me inspired.
Oregon’s picture-perfect produce is one of the best parts about the spring and summer, with these seasons boasting a ROYGBIV abundance of farm-fresh delicacies. While marionberries are all the rage here in the Beaver State, strawberries are summer’s unofficial mascot, and we devour these beautiful berries by the bushelful. In Salem, Oregon, E.Z. Orchards Shortcake Stand is a seasonal spot that sells what is, in our humble opinion, the best strawberry shortcake in the world.
There's a saying that something is "as American as apple pie," but we beg to differ. We happen to think the most quintessentially American dessert is strawberry shortcake. With beautiful red berries and fluffy white cake, it's downright patriotic!
Each summer, this Salem shortcake stand (!!) combines the finest Willamette Valley-grown berries with premium quality ingredients to form shortcakes, milkshakes, smoothies, and many other to-die-for desserts.
...and, by extension, the strawberry shortcake. The cake is light yet sturdy enough to accommodate a mountain of fresh, succulent, naturally sweet strawberries, that, when topped with a cloud of whipped cream, becomes something much greater than the sum of its parts.
Feeling peachy? This seasonal stone fruit also makes an appearance in the menu at E.Z. Orchards Shortcake Stand, and we daresay it's as good as its strawberry sibling...
