Many people believe that this street in Portland was the inspiration for Oregon-native Matt Groening's character Ned Flanders in The Simpsons. According to oregonlive.com, the city has had problems with graffiti on these street signs, as vandals continually spray paint a "D" after "NE" on the sign.
