One of the best ways to enjoy Oregon’s natural beauty is by sleeping under the stars. You don’t need a fancy campsite – the primitive sites at Catherine Creek State Park are nice and shady, and they’re the perfect place to be on a hot summer day.
Address: Medical Springs Highway, Union, OR 97883
You'll find Catherine Creek State Park near LaGrande, in the northeastern corner of the Beaver State. The creek got its name from Catherine Godley, a settler in the area in the late 1800s.
The park is nestled in the Wallowa-Whitman National Forest, and it's surrounded by Ponderosa pines. Take a stroll along the three-mile-long footpath that winds through the campground and picnic area.
Cross Catherine Creek on the pretty footbridge. The creek is full of rainbow trout and steelhead, and you can try some catch-and-release fishing while you're here, or just cool off while wading in the cold, clear water.
Campers enjoy restrooms with flush toilets, horseshoe pits, and drinking water. The sites are perfect for tent camping, and they can accommodate RVs as well. Two group sites can accommodate as many as 100 guests.
