An hour may not seem like a lot of time for a fun break in the city, but there are actually plenty of things to do in 60 minutes. When you are in need of a quick burst of fun on afternoon, check out one of these activities to quench your boredom.
1. Powell's Books
You can never really go wrong with Powell's. While book lovers may feel rushed with only an hour, this epic bookstore on Burnside is a great way to spend an hour.
2. Jamison Square
If you are hot, head over to Jamison Square to cool off. This lovely Pearl District park is perfect for reading in the sun, splashing your feet in the pools, and people watching.
3. Portland Saturday Market
For artistic inspiration, The Saturday Market is a great place to spend some time. This weekly event features some of the local crafters and artisans that call Portland home, and contrary to its name, takes place on Saturday and Sunday.
4. Lan Su Chinese Garden
Housed in just one city block, this garden is easily explorable in an hour, though you may want to stay longer and hang out in its wonderful tea house.
5. International Rose Test Garden
A Portland favorite, the Rose Garden is always worth a quick visit. Stroll the roses and take in over 550 varieties, and still have enough time to relax and have a quick rest amongst the roses.
6. Ground Kontrol
Video games are all grown up at this arcade hot spot that features classic games, pinball machines and a full bar. An hour spent here is always full of joy.
7. Ton McCall Waterfront Park
Portland is known for its beauty, and strolling along the waterfront, it is easy to see why. This scenic walk along the west bank of the Willamette is perfect on a cool day, something we have lots of here in the PNW.
8. Rocky Butte
In East Portland, Rocky Butte looms high at 600 feet, giving you some spectacular views of Mt Hood, Mt. St Helens, Mt. Adams and downtown. Bring a picnic and relax atop this immensely scenic overlook.
9. Portland Aerial Tram
For a high flying trip that's quick, take a ride on the Portland Aerial Tram. This cable car that boards on the South Waterfront travels at 22 MPH to 500 feet in just four minutes. Awesome views await you on the journey that is fun for riders of all ages.
10. Kennedy School Soaking Tub
If you need to unwind, head over to the Kennedy School for a dip in its heated saltwater soaking tub. This small pool is perfect for aching muscles and a great escape from your day.
