Life can be dangerous, and just because we live in the beautiful Pacific Northwest doesn’t mean we are any less at risk for disaster. For the best results, when you live in Portland, you should avoid doing these things to stay out of harms way. While some of these rules are more serious than others, these are all things to live by in our picturesque city.
1. Hiking Without Rain Gear
You know it rains here, so why take the risk? You never know when you will be cold and soaked. It only takes one drenched mishap to remember your rain jacket more regularly.
2. Rush Hour Traffic
I-205 and I-5 are all pretty close to a parking lot during rush hour, and I-84 is not far behind. Stay late or leave early to avoid the mess, and you will save yourself the headache.
3. Going For Donuts On A Diet
Don't even step in the vicinity of one of our donut shops if you are trying to lose weight. The smell will suck you in and next thing you know, you will have consumed 1000+ calories in donut.
4. Forgetting A Rain Cover For Your Tent When Camping
Don't throw your whole camping trip away with this novice mistake. That rain cover may seem useless, but if you have ever camped in the (unexpected) rain, you know its value 100%.
5. Not Buying Local
We love local here in Portland. If you don't buy local food, don't broadcast it.
6. Not Letting Anyone Know Before You Go
Sound advice always includes telling someone where you are going before heading out into the woods. Cell signals are not strong everywhere, and having someone that knows where you are can help to find you if you go missing.
7. Going Skiing/Snowboarding Without Sunscreen
It may seem like cloud cover would prevent sunburns, but it is not so. Be sure to put on sunscreen (even in the winter) when you will be outdoors all day whether it is cloudy or not.
8. Buying Wine That's Not From Oregon
We love our wine, and would like it if everyone around us love it as much as we do.
9. Also, Buying Beer Not From Portland
We have over 60 breweries in the city. There is just no reason not to buy beer from one of them.
10. Taking Our Beautiful Scenery For Granted
We live in such a wonderful place, it would be a shame not to appreciate it!
