Do you remember the good old days, when you’d head to the drive-in and the car hop would come out to take your order? You’d eat right there in the car, which, unlike today, was a unique experience. Then, if you were lucky, your dad would let you order an ice cream for dessert. While most drive-ins today no longer offer car hop service, there is one in Bend that will remind you of your childhood. Head to Pilot Butte Drive-In:
This little drive-in has been serving up burgers and fries curbside since 1983, and it just keeps getting better with age.
Pilot Butte Drive-In is located at 917 NE Greenwood Ave., Bend, OR 97701.
Pull up under the awning and check out the menu board to see what sounds tasty. We'll give you a hint: you definitely want a burger; they're downright legendary. A car hop will deliver your food right to your car on a special tray that hooks to your window, and you can dine right there...
...or you can pop into the dining room and order and enjoy your food there, instead. The interior looks just like it did back in 1983, and we love everything about it, including the retro fireplace right in the middle of the room. On a chilly day, the blazing fire will warm you right up.
The burgers here are absolutely delicious. Made with 100% Angus ground chuck, they're juicy, delicious, and super fresh. Choose from more than a dozen different specialty burgers. Pilot Butte Drive-In sells more than 40,000 burgers a year, so you know they're something special.
If you're absolutely ravenous, you might try the Double Pilot Butte Burger. It's a monster! You can get an idea of just how huge it is in this photo, where it's sitting next to a regular cheeseburger. It's made with 18 ounces of ground chuck.
