If you’ve ever visited a glassblowing studio, you know that every piece is unique and beautiful. You’ll find glass-blowing studios all up and down the Oregon coast, but there’s one place in particular that’s perfect for folks who want to try this art form themselves. Visit Oregon Coast Glassworks, and create your own blown-glass piece.
Try your hand at glassblowing when you visit Oregon Coast Glassworks in Newport.
Step inside to find a gallery full of colorful, unique blown glass art. You'll find everything from vases and bowls...
...to molded pieces in the shapes of hearts or starfish...
...to the ever-popular glass floats, in every color of the rainbow.
The artists at Oregon Coast Glassworks also create some one-of-a-kind art pieces.
Pick up some of these beautifully-artistic pieces as a memento of your visit, or for gifts...OR make your own!
Are you ready to try to make your own blown-glass item? Take a one-on-one class from a professional glassblowing artist.
When you book your class, you can choose what kind of piece you'd like to make. Choose a float, paperweight, heart, inverted bowl, supersize float, sea star, lampshade, floppy bowl or vase.
Your instructor will first get the glass super hot, placing it in a 2,000-degree furnace. Then, you'll roll the malleable glass into other colored pieces of glass to start creating your masterpiece.
You'll move your piece back and forth from the marver table (a special table that's used to help control the temperature of the glass while you work on it) to the furnace.
It might look scary, but it's very safe. You'll have eye protection and heavy leather gloves to protect you, and your instructor is right there to guide you through the process.
In fact, artists of all ages are welcome to try.
You'll soon see your piece of glass art taking shape. The class takes just a half hour, from start to finish.
Once your piece is completed, you'll leave it at the studio overnight to completely cool. You'll pick up your finished glassblown creation the next day after noon.
You'll want to show everyone the beautiful piece of art you made on the Oregon coast. Make sure to take plenty of photos of your creation - you should be proud of it!
The price of the class ranges from $65 to $155, depending on which item you choose to create. Walk-ins are accepted if space is available, but participants are highly encouraged to book their class in advance.
