Chin’s Kitchen is a Chinese food restaurant that’s part of Oregon history. This old-school eatery in Portland, Oregon has been serving local diners for decades – it first opened in 1949 – and its bright and flashy neon sign makes it highly recognizable. For many years, this spot served Chinese food that was geared specifically toward the American palate, but when ownership changed in 2017, it changed to become more authentic. It now serves northeastern Chinese cuisine, also known as Dongbei, and it does what it does very well indeed. Chin's Kitchen in Portland has a long and storied history. It was opened by the Chin family in 1949. It was the first Chinese food in Portland and it was even available by delivery.
The daughter of the founders, Betty Jean Lee, ran the restaurant for many decades. She was also a very important figure in Portland's Chinese-American community throughout her life. She died in 2022. Before she passed away, she sold the restaurant to Chang Feng (Wendy) and Change Li (Cindy) from Harbin, China in 2017.
