Mo was a wonderful woman with tons of energy. In addition to running Mo's as a single mom during its early years, she hosted a community radio show, cared for her customers, and hosted celebrities and dignitaries from all over the world.

Robert Kennedy visited the little cafe in May, 1968, and fell in love with Mo's chowder. He enjoyed it so much that he insisted on taking a couple buckets of it with him on the plane! Senator Kennedy also invited Mo to join him on his trip to Los Angeles, but she declined. He was assassinated just days later at The Ambassador Hotel in L.A.

There's a garage door installed on the front of the building, and on sunny days it's raised to provide diners with fresh, coastal air. Back in the early days of Mo's, a customer finished her meal and left. Instead of putting her car in reverse to back out of the parking lot, she put it in drive and drove right through the front of the restaurant! Instead of yelling and screaming, Mo comforted the woman and said, "Well, we’ll just put in a garage door so you can drive in anytime you want."
