What are some beautiful canyons in Oregon?
Oregon may be known for its incredible beaches and waterfalls, but its canyons are pretty impressive too. Here are some beautiful canyons in Oregon you really need to seek out:
- Hell’s Canyon: The Snake River winds around and through this stunning canyon in Eastern Oregon. Hell's Canyon may not be as steep as the Grand Canyon, but it is the deepest river gorge in all of North America at almost 8,000 feet deep. Because there are few roads passing through the area there are large sections of true wilderness. It is an incredibly scenic spot for hiking, kayaking, biking, fishing, and camping. Hell's Canyon ranks right up near the top for our favorite natural wonders Oregon.
- Valhalla Canyon: It might be hard to believe that there are unexplored sections of wilderness right here in Oregon, but deep in the heart of the Mount Jefferson Wilderness you'll find this incredible hidden gem. It wasn't until a helicopter pilot flying toward a wildfire in 2010 discovered this secret canyon that it was officially mapped and named. Even after its initial spotting, it took him four years to find it on foot. It remains a remote untouched wonder that few have even stepped foot in.
- Crack In The Ground: This has to be one of our favorite names for a canyon in Oregon because it is what it is - a giant crack in the ground. You'll find it in Oregon’s Christmas Valley southeast of Bend. What makes Crack In The Ground a bit unique is that it is an old volcanic fissure. As you hike in the two-mile-long canyon looking up 70-foot tall walls to the bright blue sky above you'll feel like you are traveling back in time before humans first stepped foot in this beautiful canyon. The Crack In The Ground Trail is one of our favorite canyon hikes in Oregon.
