You might think that a beach is just a stretch of sand along the ocean’s shoreline, but in Oregon, we know better. Our beaches here aren’t your typical run-of-the-mill attractions; we have an incredible beach with sea caves and a waterfall, a beach with the hull of a ship that wrecked in hazardous waters, and even a beach with hidden treasures just waiting to be found. If you haven’t visited Lincoln City’s beach yet this fall, you’ll want to head there asap.
You'll find Lincoln City in the northern-central portion of the Oregon Coast, almost directly due west of Salem. Seven miles of beaches beckon here, and you'll certainly find plenty to do and see during your visit.
Sea creatures aren't the only colorful, hidden gems on this beach. During Lincoln City's Float Festival, thousands of hand-blown glass floats are hidden here.
Glass floats were traditionally used by Japanese fishermen to mark the spots where they put their nets. Now, fishermen use plastic floats, but glass blowing artists continue to create these colorful spheres as pieces of fine art.
More than 3,000 floats will be hidden on the beach in Lincoln City throughout the year, and you're definitely going to want to search for one! Floats are hidden every day in locations from Siletz Bay to Roads End. To keep the hunt challenging, the places and times are random.
Here's a hint that will help you find a float: Focus your search on the area between the high tide line and the embankment above the beach. The float fairies hide these gems in places where the tide won't just take them right out to sea.
Want to learn more about the float you just found? Register your float, and Explore Lincoln City will send you a certificate of authenticity and a bio of the artist who made it.
To register your float, text FLOATS to 24587, call 541-996-1274, or visit the registration page of the website here.

Starting this year, the Float Festival is year-round! Float fairies will be hiding these fragile gems all year long. Plan your trip to Lincoln City soon so you can find your very own hidden treasure.
