The days of the gold rush may be long gone, but that doesn’t mean you can’t still test your luck gold panning! All around Oregon, there are creeks and rivers still open to the general public for recreational gold panning. Here are seven of the best spots to (try to) strike it rich:
This historical mining area is a great place to hone your gold hunting skills. A section of the creek just above Green Peter Reservoir is open to the public.
Located approximately 10 miles east of Sixes, Oregon, the Sixes River is a prime place to pan for gold. There is also a camping site open during the summer months if you want to make a weekend of it.

Hidden in the foothills of the Cascade Mountains about 18 miles southeast of Cottage Grove, Sharps Creek Recreation Site is prime gold panning territory. The site consists of a small campground and a day-use area overlooking Sharps Creek. Here, visitors will find opportunities for hiking, fishing, wildlife viewing, camping, picnicking, swimming, and panning for gold.
