Oregon is a hiker’s paradise, but some trails are particularly spectacular. Here’s a hiking trail along the coast that offers some incredible scenery that makes your effort well worth it.
You'll find Humbug Mountain State Park in Port Orford along the southern portion of the coast. The park has a beautiful beach, campground, picnic areas, restrooms, and a hiking trail.
Humbug Mountain towers above the park at an elevation of 1,756 feet, then slopes right down to meet the Pacific Ocean. It's one of Oregon's tallest mountains that rise from the sea.
The forest here is so dense that when early settlers of Port Orford tried to make a trail over the mountain to reach the Rogue River gold mines, the exploration party got lost and became so frustrated that when they returned, they named it "Humbug Mountain."
While you're hiking, you certainly won't feel frustration... you'll be inspired by the natural beauty you see all around you. There are tons of beautiful wildflowers at this state park and all along the trail.
Have you hiked up Humbug Mountain? We’d love to hear your trail stories! Don’t forget to share photos of your epic outdoor adventures on our Oregon Nature Lovers Facebook group for a chance to see your snapshots featured!
