If you’re headed to the Oregon Coast, then there’s a good chance that you’ll get hungry on the way there. Fortunately, there’s a great place to stop near Tillamook that will fill your belly with tasty food so you can make it the rest of the way to the Pacific. Alice’s Country House has been serving hungry locals and travelers for over 43 years and it’s approximately halfway between Portland and places like Pacific City or Manzanita. You’ll love this hidden gem restaurant in Oregon. Don’t miss it!
Alice's Country House is a lovely spot right on Route 6 in the Tillamook State Forest. It's about 10 minutes east of the town of Tillamook, so keep an eye out for it as you approach.
This restaurant is known for its homestyle cooking and you'll feel right at home as soon as you enter. It feels more like you're a guest of Alice's in her home, rather than a restaurant patron. The dining room is large, spacious, and homey.
If you got a later start, Alice's Country House is also a good spot for lunch. The sandwiches served here are large and satisfying, like this turkey sandwich with Tillamook cheddar cheese on a hoagie!
The Big Spruce Club is another tasty option. It's a triple decker with ham, turkey, and pepper bacon. You can get any sandwich with sweet potato fries, regular fries, chips, potato salad, tots, salad, soup, onion rings, or coleslaw.
Alice's Country House offers 13 different kinds of burgers. From Ron's Burger to the Chili Burger to the Louisiana Burger and onward, they're all excellent.
The most memorable burger on Alice's menu, though, is the Challenge Burger. It's a two-pound Tillamook cheeseburger with special sauce and all the fixings on a 12" bakery bun. Plus, it's served with two large orders of fries. If you can finish it in under an hour, it's free!
Don't eat too much if you're planning on hiking and swimming at the beach though — you're going to regret it. Alice's Country House is also an excellent place to stop on your way home because the dinners are fantastic as well. How about some prime rib?
No matter what direction you're headed, you're going to want some pie for the road. You can choose from a wide variety of pies here. If you pick one up on the way out, you may need to pick up another one as you head home.
There's no shame in buying and eating two pies in a day by the way ...
Alice's Country House is a hidden gem in the woods of Oregon. You're going to love this place, and once you visit, you're sure to make stopping at Alice's a regular tradition. Enjoy!
Alice’s Country House is one of the best homestyle restaurants in all of Oregon. Make a point to stop there next time you’re headed to the coast. You’ll be so glad that you did!
Are you headed to the mountains instead of to the beach? This homestyle restaurant near Mount Hood will meet your needs if you’re going east instead of west from Portland!
