It’s hard to beat the beauty of Oregon’s waterfalls. From the majestic Multnomah Falls to the misty curtains of Ramona Falls, each of our waterfalls has its own unique characteristics. While some falls like Multnomah, Toketee, and Tumalo get all the press, there are others that are seriously underrated.
Take the short, easy hike to Henline Falls to find one of our favorites.
Note: Unfortunately, since the time of publication much of this area has been damaged due to the Beachie Creek Fire.
Henline Falls is located in the Willamette National Forest, in the Opal Creek Wilderness Area. You'll find it about 32 miles east of Silver Falls State Park.
The trailhead is located on Forest Road 2209, and there's a small parking lot there. If the lot is full, you can park on the south side of the road anywhere within 1/4 mile of the trailhead.
Your well-behaved furry friends are welcome to explore this trail with you. Kids also love this easy hike, but there are some steep drop offs, so keep a close eye on them.
Mining was once a thriving industry in this area, and you can still see remnants of the past, including the crumbling foundation of the old power plant and an abandoned mine shaft.
You can explore a bit of the mine shaft, but be aware of low ceilings and slippery floors. Though the mine tunnels into the mountain 1,700 feet, you'll be limited to around 30 feet before you reach a bat gate that blocks your passage.
Please remember to follow Leave No Trace Principles when visiting Henline Falls. Stay on the trail to preserve plant life, pack out everything you pack in, and clean up after your pup if you bring him along. Let's keep this area pristine for future generations to enjoy!
