They say that breakfast is the most important meal of the day. We have no idea who “they” are, but we can’t argue with starting the day off with piles of pancakes and mountains of hash browns! If you love breakfast food, you need to visit The Gateway Breakfast House.
The Gateway Breakfast House is a classic diner that's a neighborhood favorite in Portland.
Address: 11411 NE Halsey Street, Portland, OR 97220
Leave your fussy table manners at home; this is old-school dining at its best. There's going to be a line on weekends, so settle in for a bit of a wait. It's worth it.
For a really hearty meal, go with the Country Breakfast. It includes eggs, hashbrowns, your choice of meat (the country-fried steak is a great choice) AND either French toast, pancakes, a waffle, biscuits and gravy, or toast.
Have your breakfast and dessert at the same time when you order the strawberry toast with whipped cream. It's three thick slices of French toast, covered in strawberries and generously topped with fresh whipped cream. Yum!
Breakfast is served all day long at The Gateway Breakfast House. The restaurant is open Monday through Saturday from 6:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.; Sunday from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.
