This small town has a population of just over 400 residents, but they’re used to visitors. People come from all over to fish and raft in Maupin, which is built around a curve of the Deschutes River. Maupin, Oregon is wonderful! You'll love visiting it. To give you an idea of where it is, it's about 40 minutes due south from The Dalles.
Maupin is beyond the eastern end of the Mount Hood National Forest. This area is much drier than Oregon's forests, but the Deschutes River passes right through here.
This town was named for pioneer Howard Maupin. He ran a ferry across the river here in the late 1800s.

Even though Maupin has a small population, there are quite a few small businesses in town to serve Maupin's residents and visitors. The Mount Hood Brewing Company Rainbow Tavern is a great place to have a drink. It's right on the main strip — Route 197.
All of the above places are worth stopping at in Maupin, but the best way to spend your day in this small town in the summertime is on the water. There are nearly a dozen different rafting outfitters in Maupin — and they are ALL very well rated. Pick one and get out there!
