When you’re craving comfort food, fried chicken might be just what you need. It’s not all created equal though – you certainly don’t want bland chicken with soggy breading, do you? Head to Basilisk in Portland, where you’ll find perfectly seasoned fried chicken served three different ways.
Welcome to Basilisk - a quirky, charming little restaurant with a large dining room, a tiny menu, and the best fried chicken you've ever tasted.
Find Basilisk at 820 NE 27th Ave., Portland, OR 97232.
The sleek dining room has plenty of seating, whether you're grabbing a quick workday lunch at the bar, or noshing on chicken with your friends for dinner.
You'll want to spend at least a little bit of time admiring the artwork and the bric-a-brac on the shelves. It's a weird, wacky, wonderful collection, that's for sure.
It shouldn't take you too long to decide what to eat at Basilisk - there are just a handful of things on the menu, and the fried chicken is basically the star of the show. Get yours in a salad with a boneless chicken thigh fried up to perfection, then cut into large chunks and placed over noodles on a bed of greens alongside a boiled egg and some avocado.
Or get your fried chicken fix with the sandwich. It's also made with a fried chicken thigh, then topped with house-made pickled cucumbers and cabbage slaw.
If you like it spicy, order the Hot Chicken Plate. It's Nashville hot chicken that's coated with a special spicy Basilisk sauce, then served over Texas toast alongside house-made pickled cucumbers. This chicken is mouth-searingly hot!
There are a few side dishes to choose from, including French fries, macaroni salad, and coleslaw, but you'll definitely want to try the Dan Dan fries. These vegan fries are drenched in Szechuan peanut sauce and chili oil, then topped with baby dill pickles, crushed peanuts, green onion, cilantro, and lime.
