The Oregon Coast might be famous for its rugged natural beauty and sweater weather, but did you know that it’s also a place where you can find million-year-old fossils? One of the best places to discover ancient treasure is at Beverly Beach. From seashell preserves to petrified wood, there’s no end to the fossils hiding in the sand here.
Located in Otter Rock on the Oregon Coast, Beverly Beach State Park is an enchanting destination year-round.
To reach the beach, you'll follow a walkway under the highway and emerge onto a long expanse of sandy shore.
The beach stretches all the way from Yaquina Head to the headlands of Otter Rock.
One of the best parts about a visit to Beverly Beach is the history. The oldest rock formations date back millions of years!
Shells of creatures that lived in the formation remain preserved today.
A variety of different fossils can be found around Beverly Beach, including shell fossils, petrified wood, and carbonized wood.
Teredo wood is the fossilized burrows of a wood-eating mollusk.
Please note that digging and disturbing the fossil beds are not permitted.
