Foodies are in heaven in the Beaver State, where they can find just about every kind of delicacy, perfectly prepared. It’s no surprise that fresh oysters are in abundance here, and there’s one iconic family-owned business in Oregon that’s been serving these little gems on the half shell since 1907. Have you visited Dan & Louis Oyster Bar?
Louis C. Wachsmuth grew up as the son of an immigrant who built an oyster business in Washington state. After his father retired, Louis moved to Portland with his brothers, and opened his own seafood store, which also served oyster cocktails.
Today Dan & Louis Oyster Bar is still a thriving, family-owned business. It's located at 208 SW Ankeny Street in Portland, and it's the oldest family-owned restaurant in the city.
Louis' sons, then grandsons operated the oyster bar, and today his great-grandson Keoni and his wife Michelle run the place. Their children are also involved, and will hopefully continue the family tradition as they come of age.
