Located in Eastern Oregon, Baker City is an incredible hidden gem that is definitely worth a visit. This unique town is full of beauty, history, and small town charm. Check it out:
With a population of roughly 10,000, Baker City is a one-of-a-kind town in Eastern Oregon that will blow you away. In 2016, it was named one of the "Coolest Towns in America" by Budget Travel, and for good reason.
Nestled into a valley between the Wallowa and Elkhorn Mountains, Baker City is surrounded by gorgeous scenery, making it a great launching pad for outdoor recreation.
There's plenty to do in town, from lounging at cafes and exploring the local shops to visiting historic landmarks and even golfing.
Established in 1865, Baker City is full of fascinating history. The town's beautiful Historic District is listed on the National Register of Historic places, and is home to buildings that date back to the 1870s. You can also check out the Baker Heritage Museum and the Alder House Museum to learn about local history.
Only a few miles outside of town is the incredible National Historic Oregon Trail Interpretive Center, where you can check out educational exhibits and even see wheel wagon ruts left behind from wagons that traveled on the Oregon Trail.
Baker City is also home to galleries and an art center, and hosts First Friday art walks.
Throughout the year, numerous wonderful festivals take place in town. There's an annual Miners' Jubilee, a Festival of Trees, a film festival, an art auction, a concert series, and more.
The town is full of lovely cafes and delicious restaurants as well as the award-winning Barley Brown's Brew Pub, where you can kick back and sip some freshly brewed Oregon beer.
One unforgettable way to experience Baker City is to take a horse-drawn carriage tour through the Historic District.
