If you’re looking to immerse yourself in Oregon’s autumn beauty this season, the best way to do so is by hiking right through it! There are plenty of great trails all throughout the Beaver State, but the Clear Lake Trail in the Mount Washington Wilderness Area is particularly gorgeous right now.
Clear Lake is hands-down one of Oregon's most picturesque lakes, and it's a popular spot year-round. You'll find it off the McKenzie Highway, just northwest of Sisters.
As you continue to make your way around the lake, you'll come to a lava field. Clear Lake is knowns as the "lake born of fire," because it was created more than 3,000 years ago by lava from Sand Mountain. Hike right through ancient history!
The Clear Lake Loop Trail is rated as easy, so just about anyone can tackle this hike. Plan to spend at least three hours, especially if you're prone to stopping a lot to gaze in wonder at the splendor of the scenery.
This trail is popular, so it can be crowded. Remember to practice Leave No Trace Principles so that everyone can enjoy this Oregon treasure...both today, and for years to come.
